The nation's remarkable new West African Art Museum (Mowaa) has ended up in the middle of area political conflicts during the time it was supposed to – but was unable – to welcome visitors to the visitors for the initial occasion.

Internally conservators carefully unwrapped cultural items from protective packaging, examining each artifact and taking meticulous records before placing them on display surfaces and bases.

Technicians fine-tuned environmental controls. In the research lab, officers set up equipment intended to conserve centuries-old objects.

Financial Backing and Economic Vision

The venture has been the concept of businessman Phillip Ihenacho – now Mowaa's managing director.

"I hope us to have a major economic benefit on local residents in the vicinity," he stated to media outlets, noting that he aspired to make Benin City "a tourism center."

Mowaa, a not-for-profit Nigerian institution, envisions itself establishing over 30,000 employment opportunities and adding over $80m annually to the regional creative economy through alliances and activities.

Financial Support and Government Issues

It has required $25m to reach this point – capital raised from different contributors, including the French and German governments, the British Museum and the regional authorities.

But at present the local government has revoked permission from below it – canceling the occupancy of the property on which the building was erected.

An official representative clarified this was because in the early agreements it had identified as EMOWAA – and it had later removed "Edo" from its name.
